First SCOLLAm Augmented Reality Learning Experiences experiments held

3/12/2016

On Thursday and Friday, 10 and 11 March 2016, the first experiments testing the SCOLLAm Augmented Reality (AR) Learning Experiences (ARLEs) were held. First and second grade pupils at Primary School Trnjanska therefore had opportunity to test their math skills throuh the AR.math ARLE which asks pupils to find a solution to a math problem (addition, subtraction or multiplication of two numbers) by "scanning" with their tablets the correct answer given on a paper marker. The problems were designed seperately for the first and second grade in line with the curriculum and their progess at the time of the experiments.

Augmented reality is an approach which combines the virtual world with elements from the real world, achiving a true sense of physicality and integration into the actual environment around the user when using the tablet. The literature shows that, through such characteristics, it can have a good impact on student engangement, especially with lower preforming or at risk students. Therefore, it is an approach that we consider important to explore as part of the SCOLLAm project, which we will continue to do next week and throughout the rest of the scool year.
